Kirkman’s Zinc Sulfate Topical Cream is not a dietary supplement. This topical cream contains zinc sulfate.

Zinc is present in every cell in the body and is also a component of over 200 enzymes and involved in more enzymatic reactions than any other mineral constituent in mammals. Zinc is essential for normal skin, vision, smell, taste, reproduction, brain development, protein synthesis and wound healing. It is also one of the most important factors in a healthy immune system. Zinc is involved in just about every aspect of the immune system, including the immune system enhancing “T” cells that are necessary for immune system response.

Zinc levels in the body may be lowered for many reasons including the following:

•     occasional diarrhea;

•     fiber consumption, which causes zinc excretion through the intestinal tract;

•     perspiration;

•     high calcium and iron consumption;

•     copper ingestion.

Children and adults need between 10 mg and 50 mg daily.

Though the recommended daily value is 15 mg, it is generally recognized that 30% to 50% of ingested zinc is not absorbed due to complexing with phytic acid, perspiration loss, fiber transport through the intestines or because of the competition for absorption with copper, iron and calcium.

Sucrose, soy, casein, gluten, milk, egg, artificial colorings, artificial flavorings, yeast, gelatin, peanuts, tree nuts or fish.

  1. Haven't had a cold sore in 4 years Review by Jack
    Quality

    This stuff is fantastic for avoiding cold sores. Apparently viruses are attracted to zinc, and die. I am not a practitioner, but that's what I read, and it worked on me and my whole family. Apparently Zinc Sulfate is the only kind of zinc which is absorbed by the skin. Most zinc found in creams is zinc oxide, which does not penetrate, and thus doesn't work.

    Since zinc kills viruses, I put a bit of this cream inside the tip of my nostrils (using a swab) when I feel a cold coming on. I also applied it to my neck when I could feel something spreading from my neck to my ear. It seems effective from what I can tell. Do not put it deep into your nostrils, as it can cause a loss of smell--possibly permanently. This is why Zicam Nasal Gel was removed from the market, even though it was very effective. This Zinc Sulfate cream seems to work just as well for me as the gel did.

    Recently I read zinc also kills both bacteria and fungus. So now I'm using it for a persistent fungal skin infection I've had for years.

    Note that you can overdose on zinc, so use this product sparingly. To rid myself of cold sores, I applied it to my lips a couple times a week for a month. (I did not have any cold sores at the time.) My ex applied it when she had a cold sore on the way, and says it went away quickly. My grandkids used to get cold sores a lot, but haven't had any in well over a year since using this cream.

    I've read this cream is also effective on genital herpes (similar to the cold sore virus). I cannot comment on this as neither I nor anyone I know has genital herpes. But if you do, it might be worth a try! (Posted on 12/29/2015)
