Why We Test for These Metals

Lead

Lead is widely present in the environment and may enter ingredients through contaminated soil, water or processing conditions. Monitoring lead is important because excessive exposure can affect neurological development, kidney function and other body systems.

Arsenic

Arsenic occurs naturally in soil and water and may be present in botanical, rice-derived and marine ingredients. Kirkman tests for arsenic as part of our assessment of potential environmental contamination.

Cadmium

Cadmium may accumulate in plants grown in contaminated soil. Because it can remain in the body for extended periods, monitoring cadmium is an important part of ingredient and finished-product testing.

Mercury

Mercury may be a concern in certain marine-derived ingredients and mineral materials. Testing helps Kirkman identify potential contamination before a product is released.

Aluminum

Tin may be introduced through certain metal containers, processing equipment or packaging materials. Testing helps monitor whether unexpected tin contamination is present.

Antimony may originate from environmental sources, manufacturing equipment, packaging materials or industrial processing. Its inclusion expands the range of potential contaminants evaluated under the Ultra Tested® protocol.

Barium

Barium occurs naturally in some soils and mineral ingredients. Testing for barium provides additional information about products containing ingredients that may be exposed to mineral contamination.
